Ceramics
My current focus in ceramics is thrown or hand built vessels, which are then smoked using a variety of different techniques. For me, these satisfy a fascination with all three elements of pottery, earth water and fire, as the smoking process actively involves working with the fire. My ceramics are concerned with smooth flowing forms and surface qualities.
Technical information
The size of the forms governs whether they are thrown or coiled, and sometimes these techniques are used in combination. The few decorative techniques I employ are resists, using slip and wax. The varied smoked surfaces are obtained in reduction and oxidising atmospheres sometimes using saggars. I use both red and white clays, which are mixed with a heavily grogged clay to resist thermal shock.
Etching
During my studies at the Central School, I attended a few sessions in the etching room and I have recently added etching facilities to my studio at home. I feel it compliments my ceramic work as both explore the play of light on different surfaces. The subtle, or sudden movement from light to dark is a constant theme in both mediums.
Please get in touch if you have any questions.

My work has been exhibited and sold through Liberty’s, Heals, and various small galleries in London and Norfolk, and through SWA at the Mall Galleries.
It can be seen at Greenwich Printmakers Gallery, and by appointment from my studio.
I have an exhibition of etchings arranged for September 2008 in the Stark Gallery in Canterbury
